GS450h: TECHNOLOGY

Self-sufficient with a competitive twist.

3.5-Litre V6 Petrol Engine
The 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine is top of the range. With the help of two electric motors the GS450h puts out the same amount of power as a V8 sedan, but with fewer CO₂ emissions, better fuel economy and luxury that is uniquely Lexus. The dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimises an impressive 218 kW of power.

Electric Drive Motor
The Lexus Hybrid Drive System uses an electric motor to do more than reduce carbon emission or conserve energy. The electrical energy generated by the surplus petrol engine and the regenerative braking system, the electric motor in the front of the vehicle, compliments the petrol engine with its 147 kW and 275 instant Nm of torque.

Regenerative Braking

The GS450h is sustainable by being self-sufficient. The regenerative braking captures kinetic energy, which is normally lost as heat energy during braking and converts this into electrical energy to be stored in the battery. The Power Control Unit decides what to do with this later, whether it will provide energy to the electric motor or the generator.

Metal Hydride Battery

The electric energy from the Lexus Hybrid Drive generator and the regenerative braking system is stored in a long life Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery. This battery is covered by a warranty of 5 years or 160 000 km.

Adaptive Variable Suspension
The suspension of the GS450h can be adapted to suit the needs of the road. At the touch of a button the Adaptive Variable Suspension can be switched to “Sports Mode” for better handling and stability.

Electric Power Steering
The GS450h has an advanced Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, which improves steering efficiency when parking, as well as on the road at high speeds. The EPS is assisted by the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) which enhances the handling and drivability.
